The Jackpocket app allows people to buy lottery tickets online. The company’s stated goal is to “create a more convenient, fun, and responsible way to play the lottery.”

Our expert review of the Jackpocket lottery courier service and lottery app includes details on how Jackpocket works, withdrawal and deposit options, games available, and answers to questions about user fees and security.

What Is Jackpocket?

Technically, Jackpocket is a lottery courier app. That means Jackpocket employees physically go to a retail store and buy lottery tickets on your behalf. You can think of Jackpocket as the DoorDash of lottery games, taking most of the work out of playing the lottery.

At the time of this post, eleven US states have approved the Jackpocket app for the purchase of lottery tickets from authorized retailers. The goal of the app is to make lottery play more convenient, withdraw and instant win ticket purchases available through users’ smartphones. The app also tracks play and notifies winners, handles payouts when necessary, and connects lottery players with lottery authorities in their state.

Launched in 2013, Jackpocket has slowly made a name for itself in the crowded lottery marketplace. In 2021, the app completed Series D fundraising to the tune of $120 million. The money is earmarked for expanding their geographic presence, with plans to enter international markets and develop new games and playing styles for online and land-based casinos. Celebrity supporters include Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire Mark Cuban, comedian Kevin Hart, and rising MLB star Manny Machado.

Jackpocket Promo Codes, Bonuses, & Other Promotions

When you join, you’ll be given $3 off your first purchase. This bonus is available to all new memberships. You don’t need a promo code to claim this welcome bonus – it’s available to all new members.

To claim this bonus, visit Jackpocket.com to download the mobile app. It’s free and is available for iOS or Android. A full review of the app is located further down in this post. Once you make a deposit and place your first order, Jackpocket will apply your discount at the time of checkout.

Occasionally, Jackpocket will issue promotional bonuses to members. You can only find these offers by logging in to your account on the app. They’re not huge, but they can help extend your lottery bankroll just a little bit.

How to Use Jackpocket

Once you’ve got the app downloaded, you can log in and see the games available to you, based on your physical location. Users can only buy games located in the state where they’re currently standing at the time they make a purchase.

Once a Jackpocket courier buys your ticket, it’s scanned and uploaded to your account for verification, and safely stored in a physical location. Jackpocket checks results for you automatically and alerts you when you’ve won. Depending on the size of your prize, it will either be sent to your player account, or the physical ticket will be mailed to you so you can redeem your prize according to your state’s laws.

A lottery pool option allows players to participate in lottery pool drawings with large numbers of people. More details on Jackpocket’s lottery pool are located in their own section further down in this post.

Lottery players will appreciate the ability to pick their own numbers, use quick pick functions, purchase one or multiple tickets, and set up recurring ticket purchases.

Jackpocket Prize Payouts

Jackpot automatically credits all prizes of under $600 to your player account. From there, it’s up to you to withdraw your funds or use them to purchase more games.

Withdraw funds by selecting Payout from the app’s navigation menu. Once there, you’ll enter your banking information and the amount you want to withdraw. Jackpocket says all payouts occur within 3-5 business days of request. You can only use a bank transfer for withdrawals.

For prizes of $601 or more, Jackpocket will contact you to send you the ticket so you can claim your prize from your state lottery authority. Details for each state can be found in the state-by-state guide below.

Jackpocket Deposit Methods

To purchase lottery tickets or participate in lottery pools, you need to add money to your Jackpocket account. These deposit methods vary from state to state. On the app, you’ll only see the methods available in your state.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to add money to your Jackpocket account via:

  • PayPal
If your PayPal account is a personal account linked to a confirmed bank account, and your state allows for this method, you can use PayPal to fund your Jackpocket account.
  • eCheck
Using an eCheck just means entering your bank’s routing number and your checking account number to make an electronic deposit.
  • Play+
This is a Jackpocket product, something like an eWallet or a prepaid debit card. While it’s used to make electronic deposits to your player account, Play+ also gives you a physical card to make in-store purchases and withdraw cash from an ATM.
  • Bank Transfer
Most banks are listed as options, so if you want to use a bank transfer, just select your bank from the list and send money directly to your player account.
  • Apple Pay
Users that have Apple Pay accounts can (in some states) use this method to fund their Jackpocket accounts.
  • Credit/Debit Cards
In most states, you can use VISA, Mastercard, or Discover to fund your player account, though sometimes these methods are blocked by financial institutions, even when doing business with a legal gambling outfit like Jackpocket. This method is possible but not recommended.

Fees for Using Jackpocket

Jackpocket charges no sign-up fee and no monthly fees for use. Instead, they charge a service fee when you fund your account. This isn’t a surprise fee – the amount is presented to you before you decide to make the deposit.

This fee ranges from 7-10% of your total purchase, depending on a few different factors, like the state where you live and the size of your order. Jackpocket also earns money through commission payments on winning tickets. The commissions normally paid to the retailer who sold the ticket are split evenly between the retailer and Jackpocket.

Lottery Pools at Jackpocket

Lottery pools allow players to work together with other lottery players to get a better overall chance at winning. When you join a lottery pool, each player contributes a certain amount to the purchase of lottery tickets and agree to split the winnings among them.

Currently, Jackpocket offers two kinds of lottery pools – public and private. At present, you can only form or join pools to play the two huge multi-state games Powerball and Mega Millions.

The Jackpot Lottery App

The app is the main way customers interact with Jackpocket. Their website is little more than advertising, an FAQ, and download links for the app.

The design is simple, with an emphasis on accessibility. The navigation menu on the left shows you your account balance and gives links to account funding, news, a find-a-retailer tool, customer support, and an about page. The main page lists games available to you, as well as promotions and ads for new options.

The options available to players through the app include:

  • draw and instant win ticket purchase for eligible games in your state
  • public and private lottery pools
  • a refer-a-friend program that pays $10 per referral sign-up
  • auto-funding and auto-play subscription services
  • a results tab to help you track of your play

Jackpocket Security

Jackpocket goes out of their way to convince potential signups that their service is safe.

The site uses email confirmation for every order, including your name, the lottery drawing you bought, your numbers, and scans of the physical ticket(s) purchased. In the scan, your ticket’s barcode is watermarked with your name. It’s a nice presentation that gives a good sense of confidence in the site’s security capabilities.

Tickets are physically secured in a locked fireproof vault under constant surveillance. Tickets are claimed using government-issued ID and signature.

Of course, like any regulated online business, Jackpocket uses modern encryption and security compliance measures to ensure secure transmission of sensitive financial data. No identify information is stored, and Jackpocket’s compliance with the Real ID initiative adds a layer of security.

A State-by-State Guide to Using Jackpocket

Jackpocket must follow the law in every state where it operates. Gambling law varies from state to state. Jackpocket works a little differently in each state where it does business.

Thankfully, most US lottery programs follow something of a standard when it comes to claiming prizes. In most cases, when you win a prize of $600 or less, the Jackpocket app simply credits the win to your player account. That’s because most state lotteries allow simple hand-to-hand claims on wins of up to $600.

Conclusion

The US lottery industry has been slow to adapt to the expansion of online and mobile gaming. Few state lotteries offer anything resembling online sales, and American mobile lottery play is a complete ghost town. The people behind Jackpocket want to be the driving force behind new ways to play lottery games, embracing ever-expanding Web and mobile technology to do so.

If you play lottery games regularly, you might find the convenience factor of Jackpocket tempting. A free $3 lottery play to get started is a nice sweetener, though nobody’s going to get rich with a bonus that small. The options to join lottery pools is interesting, if for no other reason than that nobody else is offering that service at this scale.

Check out Jackpocket for a different way to buy the lottery games you know and love, subscribe long-term to lottery games so you never miss a draw, and join a group of like-minded lottery players.
